We’ve been dreaming of summer weather ever since the clocks went back and we were burdened with the concept of the sun setting to complete darkness by 4 p.m. It’s been a long winter, and while we can’t exactly say we’re out of the woods yet (it did snow this week, after all), we can certainly see the literal and metaphorical light at the end of the cold and wintry tunnel.

Thankfully, not only do we have summer weather to look forward to in the coming months, but also summer trends. With the S/S 20 runways of last September as our indication, it’s shaping up to be a chic season. Interestingly enough, it seems the street style set are equally as enthralled with next season’s trends as several showgoers at fashion week are already trialling the most-talked-about looks.

From the must-have new spiral sandals by Bottega Veneta to neon colourways to this season’s It item—aka Bermuda shorts—the fashion set is proving you don’t need to wait until summer to wear summer trends.

Of course, industry insiders are finding their own ways to make the trends seasonally appropriate for right now. For example, many are pairing their Bermuda shorts against knee-high boots and blazers, while others are opting to wear neon hues in cosy knits or tailored separates. Keep scrolling for the three summer trends fashion people are already wearing.

As we know by now, everything Bottega Veneta touches turns to fashion gold, and its latest footwear debut is no different. Arctic temperatures at London Fashion Week didn’t stop the style set from displaying their new Bottega sandals, as many wore the strappy shoes with trousers, blazers and trench coats.

Historically, this wouldn’t have been the first trend I’d jump at the chance to try, but the street style set is certainly making a convincing case for Bermuda shorts. Worn with knee-high boots, blazers and knits, showgoers added all the layers needed to make the shorts feel seasonally appropriate.

Nothing says summer quite like an abundance of bright colour, and as the S/S 20 runways proved, neon is set to be high on the agenda when the warm weather comes around. Fashion-week attendees aren’t waiting for that, though, as many chose to sport neon shades in the form of tailored suits and bright knits over the last few weeks.
