The best trench coats are lifelong keepers—the kind of trusty wardrobe staple you know is ready and waiting whenever you need it without vying for your attention at all times (or getting upset if you’ve shoved it to the back of the rail for a few months in a row). It took me a long time to find my outerwear holy grail. My perfect trench coat arrived early on in 2015 when Finery launched and I scooped up the double-face crêpe trench the brand continues to riff on today. I still dig it out every winter, and it’s already made a 2020 appearance or two. It’s a weighty fabric in a flattering fit, with a slight ‘70s vibe and an overall finish that looks way beyond its high-street price tag.
