Mark your calendar because there’s a new annual awards gala in town, and it’s putting Black excellence front and centre. Scheduled to take place on September 24, 2021 at Toronto’s Parkview Manor (increased gathering limits pending), the Black Fashion & Beauty Gala is all about celebrating local Black creatives and Black-owned businesses across the country. Nominations span across 12 different categories—from photographer of the year to skincare brand of the year—and each winner will receive a custom Black Fashion & Beauty Gala statuette. The red carpet-themed event is the brain child of Toronto-based fashion and event stylist Ann-Marie Daniel Barker, and at the heart of this inclusive initiative is the aim to also mentor up-and-coming visionaries through bursaries. Nomination submissions open on January 1st, 2021 and close on February 1st, 2021. For more information click here.

19/99 Beauty extends shade range in its Precision Colour Pencil

Canadian cosmetic line 19/99 Beauty has welcomed two new shades to its signature Precision Colour Pencil ($26 USD) offering. The multi-tasking, creamy-matte pencil, which can be used on lips, eyes and elsewhere on the face, now comes in two gorgeous nudes: Barna, a deep charcoal brown; and Lustro, a satin-pearl champagne shade (which is great for defining the inner corner of the eyes and brow bone, PS). 19/99 Beauty worked closely with sought-after local makeup artist Simone Otis to develop their latest colours that flatter an array of skin tones.

Jenna Lyons launches beauty brand LoveSeen

American fashion designer-turned-entrepreneur Jenna Lyons has ventured into the beauty realm with her own brand LoveSeen, a line of false eyelashes. Born out of Lyons’ own experience of missing lashes due to a genetic disorder called incontinentia pigmenti, the style maven worked side by side with longtime collaborator and makeup artist Troi Ollivierre. LoveSeen consists of fifteen styles of falsies that fit all kinds of eye shapes, and the brand did fit tests on different women and men between 18 and 70 to get their sizing just right.
