OK, so Peloton Cycling Instructor Ally Love doesn’t just have a little bit of swag, she has a lot of it. Take just one of her classes on the digital platform and that becomes clear. Ally, who is also the founder of women’s health community Love Squad, recently got engaged to her partner Andrew Haynes, who proposed as a total surprise on the beach in Mexico. The ring does have swag – Love notes that you don’t always see classic round diamonds anymore, explaining how the band, which is encrusted with smaller diamonds, splits in two – and Andrew customized it himself.

Haynes dreamed up the design, which he took to the couple’s jeweler, Danny Mikhay, calling it “an observation of [Ally’s] style over the years.” She agrees, it suits her. “It has a little bit of swag and personality. I think the ring depicts my personality really well in that it’s poised and put together, but also represents that I like to have fun,” she told POPSUGAR, reminding us that the ring is really just a physical representation of the love and commitment she and Andrew share, and that they’d rather not get caught up on the shiny things.

“If someone that you love gifts you something, you use that thing. You show appreciation by using that thing, so that’s exactly what I’m going to do with my ring.”

Nevertheless, since she hadn’t dropped any clues about the type of ring she wanted (save for an old magazine tear she showed Andrew once when they were moving in together), Ally wondered about the significance of the stone. “I always do my best for you,” was what he said when she asked. Ally and Andrew share the same birthday and birthstone, which is a diamond, so she does love that connection. We had to know how she’s planning to style it – say, with other jewelry or with a cycling workout outfit, perhaps – and for now, she’s wearing it on her left hand with two thin gold thumb rings.

“I’m someone who wears rings on every finger, I’ve done this for years. I plan to work out with it when it makes sense. If I’m going out for a run or am doing anything with weights or heavy dumbbells, I usually take off my rings because I don’t want to cut off my circulation or damage any of the jewelry. I think for cycling, I’ll wear it, because the engagement ring will be part of my everyday life as much as possible. One of the things in my relationship and in my family that’s really important is if someone that you love gifts you something, you use that thing. You show appreciation by using that thing, so that’s exactly what I’m going to do with my ring,” Love said.
