The Boots I Plan on Wearing for the Next Six Months

I apologise if the phrase ‘kitten heel’ is at all triggering for you. For me it conjures up strong memories of a certain year in secondary school when pointed, kitten heeled shoes were the ‘thing’ to be seen in—I was not allowed them as they were against the school dress code (bring in the tiny violins). But then again, I was less sad when I saw the tatty state these heels were in after few weeks of being stomped across concrete-clad school grounds. Luckily, you’ll be glad to hear that the kitten heels of 2021 could not be further than the flimsy styles worn by noughties school girls.

I have a two-year old pair of kitten heeled boots from Whistles which I wear every year without fail. I find them to be the perfect mid-point between flats and heels, winter boots and summer pumps—they are also both polished and comfy, which is a rare combination in the shoe department. I’ve noticed the trend gain momentum over the last 12 months and I reckon it’ll have a real moment for 2021. Coming in both knee-grazing and ankle-high silhouettes, soft suede and high shine leather, this is a true classic boot option that will go with everything in your wardrobe.

Most of the offerings this season come in cool neturals, such as beige, brown, black and cream, which is ideal if you’re looking for an all-rounder, but there are also fun pops of colour to be found from the likes of Arket and Mango. When it comes to styling, the knee-high designs come up trumps for versatility, as they will look just as good with mini and midi skirts and dresses as they will with tucked-in jeans and trousers. The ankle boot options are better for wearing with straight leg denim and cropped trousers—just make sure your hemline meets the top of the boot to avoid the awkward gap.
