7 Easy Wedding Guest Outfit Ideas That Will Work Every Time

April 21, 2021 at 06:08AM

At the beginning of the year, we were all planning our wedding guest outfits for various upcoming nuptials. Of course, things have changed quite dramatically since then, after we went straight into a lengthy lockdown in early January, meaning only civil ceremonies could go ahead under exceptional circumstances. However, things have now shifted. As of 12th April the government now allows weddings of up to 15 people. Then no earlier than 17 May, the government hopes to allow weddings of up to 30 people.

So, this means the hunt for a great wedding guest outfit is (finally) on. To help you in your quest to be the coolest guest, push aside the stereotypical ideas about wedding attire and instead think about the below wedding outfit suggestions. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with falling back on a midi dress (particularly if you pair it with metallic shoes), but you can also opt for a spring-ready suit or a polka-dot print complete with strappy sandals.

What we’re saying is that there are no rules. Well, other than the fact that you want to look smart, feel comfortable and not make the bride feel upset. To help you with styling ideas, we’ve found seven fail-safe ensembles. Click through our gallery for wedding guest outfit ideas you can always rely on.

Style Notes: Animal print is quite the bold option, for sure (if you’re really worried, check with the bride), but it’s still chic. Wear it with a matching or clashing headband. If you’re going to go all out, don’t be shy.

Style Notes: Yes, you can definitely wear black to a wedding. Not only does it look incredibly chic, but you’ll also look completely timeless in all the photographs documenting the big day.

Style Notes: Suiting is the perfect alternative to dresses if you don’t really fancy showing off your legs. Look for pale or pastel hues (wisely steering clear of white), and then add strappy footwear for the finish.

Style Notes: Accessories maketh the outfit, and at weddings, the more impressive shoes or bag, the better. Think beaded arm candy set against a colour-block hue.

Style Notes: Frock fatigue? Why not try one of the cooler looks of the summer with a vintage-style print?

Style Notes: If time isn’t on your side when it comes to prepping your outfit, the easiest way to make it look pulled-together is to wear one shade top to toe.

Style Notes: Thanks to the unreliable British weather, long sleeves are pretty much a must when it comes to attending a wedding. But if you don’t want to drag around a jacket with you, go for longer sleeves on a dress and keep the length midi.
