Lizzo, known for wearing only the brightest and most uplifting summer fashion we’ve seen yet, has just announced “big girl summer” in her Ashanti Swimwear Ama bikini, which was given to her by brother and sister design duo Dexter and Yasmeen Opare. Dexter and Yasmeen are behind the UK-based African label that infuses Kente and Ankara prints onto designs to reflect Ghanaian culture and tell a story. Lizzo‘s choice in the Apremo-Canon pattern is associated with the Ghanaian fight for freedom from foreign domination.
“During the national lockdown last year, I sent Lizzo a message via DM, and she was kind enough to connect me to her team. I personally sent over some swimsuits, and we have stayed in contact since,” Yasmeen explained to POPSUGAR, continuing, “One thing I love about Lizzo is that her energy is infectious. Though our conversation was brief, Lizzo was so kind and open-hearted during a time in the pandemic when my business was genuinely struggling. So for this, I’ll forever be grateful.” Of course, Lizzo’s personal touches – neon green sunglasses and some monogramed gold jewelry with circular diamond hoops – only make this poolside look more exciting . . . maybe even more so than the glam Vegas outfits she rocked for her birthday. (OK, maybe that was a bit of a stretch.)

“This is a public service announcement. Big girl summer has officially begun, and big girls, we have abs,” Lizzo says in her Instagram video.
