7 Trends That Will Make Your Spring Outfits Feel So Current

March 02, 2022 at 06:04AM

The sun is shining (at least, it is while I type this), and temperatures have reached double figures: At the risk of jinxing it, let’s talk about spring outfits. I’ve been in spring mode for a while, but with the weather finally taking a turn, now seems like the perfect time to really start breaking down outfit trends we can expect from 2022.

With the burden of layers almost behind us, I’m turning my attention to the pieces that’ll help make my existing wardrobe feel more current and on-point for spring. By now, I expect you’ve already brushed up on your fashion knowledge by consulting our seasonal trend report (if you haven’t, take a moment to get up-to-speed—I’ll wait).

Now, while the runway trends are undoubtedly important and will set the tone for the next six months, I’m here to tell you that you needn’t invest in them heavily to tap into 2022’s aesthetic; a couple of clever purchases is all you’ll need to bring your wares bang up-to-date this spring. Don’t believe me? Just look at the influencers below, who have utilised a handful of key buys to elevate their outfits.

From the very specific colour experts are backing to upgrades on wardrobe staples, scroll on to the spring outfit trends I recommend trying.

Style Notes: Dresses and springtime go hand-in-hand, but there’s no need to invest in an abundance of new frocks to feel fresh for the season ahead. Instead, add a gold chain belt and your dresses will feel revitalised.

This looks just like Lucy’s.

An upgrade on the traditional logo belt.

A frugal find that looks just as good.

Style Notes: Spring might be well and truly on the horizon but, let’s face it, this is Britain, and we’ll probably still be wearing out coats until May. Give your outerwear a springy overhaul by investing in a light pastel coat—I recommend ice blue.

I’ve seen this coat in real life and, honestly, it stopped me in my tracks—it’s that chic.

The oversized silhouette of this coat will layer over even my chunkiest knitwear.

The white buttons are a small detail that makes this coat look even more spring-like.

Style Notes: Co-ords have been more popular than ever over the oats couple of years, but with lockdown behind us, now’s the time to embrace the ladylike skirt co-ord, which is making a comeback for spring. Look for bouclé or tweedy textures, and wear with loafers or slingbacks.

Alessandra Rich is the queen of skirt co-ords.

How cute are the contrast crochet and pearl buttons?

If pastel hues aren’t your thing, this black, red, and cream iteration is just as classic.

Wear this skirt with an oversized linen shirt for 2022-appeal.

Style Notes: Whether worn with your failsafe denim to layered over a bikini on the beach, shirts are synonymous with warm-weather style. As temperatures continue to raise, might I suggest considering investing in the shirt trend of 2022—a cropped shirt.

The acetate detail on this shirt is so unexpectedly beautiful.

The satin texture is perfect for after-dark styling.

This shade of pink is going to be everywhere this season.

Style Notes: If the last two years have taught us anything, it’s that dressing comfortably is key, and this is easily the most comfortable shoe to invest in for spring. Cropping up all over my IG feed, flat clogs are the fashion person’s shoe of choice right now, and will give your spring outfits an effortless feel.

Hands down, the comfiest shoes I own.

This leather iteration makes for a sleek alternative to suede.

For extra fashion points, opt for pairs with bold buckle detailing.

Style Notes: Although the kelly green fashion trend started at the tail end of last year, it’s now, as we head into spring, that it’s really gaining steam. This vibrant shade of green is following me everywhere on social media, and is slowly taking over my favourite new-in sections.

The easiest way to tap into any trend—a dress.

Consider channelling it head-to-toe for maximum style points.

A bright bag will lift your transitional outfits.

Style Notes: Stripes are a print that’s taken up permanent residence on the style agenda, but this year I’m noticing that vertical stripes are overtaking more common horizontal placements. Being petite, this is a switch I’m very much here for, as vertical stripes help to elongate my frame.

This colour palette of rust and cream looks so high-end.

Tick off another key spring trend with the strap detail on this skirt.

The fastest way to breathe new life into your old jeans.
