I’m a shoe person. Granted, I also have a penchant for bags, sunglasses and necklaces, too, but when it comes to accessories, shoes are my kryptonite. I’m a sucker for new styles, I look forward to doing the seasonal switch, and for me, summer sandals are the most exciting part of my beloved collection. Although I’m more than willing to try out new trends, I do tend to stick to my favourites. So much so, I bought Arket’s toe sandals each year for three years from 2019-2021 after I wore them into the ground each season. While I rate the likes of Arket and & Other Stories for shoes on the high street, designer styles often win. And when it comes to picking which pairs to invest in, this is an area of my wardrobe I’m always to spend money on because a) quality wins over quality in this department, and b) there’s nothing worse than sore feet from bad shoes.

Of course I’m obsessed with the Chanel dad sandals as much as everyone else, and The Row’s sandals have been on my mind for quite some time, but I’m here to tell you that you don’t have to spend your rent (and then some) to get a great designer shoe. All the styles I have on my wish list —from chunky flats to strappy heeled sandals and 70s platforms and clogs —can all be found for under the £400 price mark. And yes, they’re just as expensive-looking as the super premium brands I’ve mentioned. So, to make it easier, I’ve found all the affordable designer shoes that will look amazing, go the distance in your wardrobe and have even outlined the 5 styles to invest in. Because every fashion person (including Lucy Williams in her Jacquemus platform sandals) knows a truly great pair of shoes will be worn beyond the year you buy them in.
