Logos are a contentious issue when it comes to the fashion world. Back in 2018, Hedi Slimane took over as creative director at Celine. One of the first changes he made was to take off the acute accent off the first ‘e’. Die-hard fans were less than impressed all because of one tiny detail—to them the logo with the accent was everything. Over at Burberry, Riccardo Tisci was met with a similar situation when he changed the Burberry logo from one that was serif to sans serif. He also introduced a new monogram style. While the uproar wasn’t as loud, there were mixed reviews on what the creative director had done at the heritage brand.

Evidently, logos mean a lot to us and in 2021, they’re back. However, this year, the logo fashion trend is more refined than previous years. While there are still those T-shirts with big brand names emblazoned across, monogram is huge. From Gucci’s trademark Gs all over a skirt suit and matching tights to Max Mara’s emblem all over chic silk scarves, this is how the logo trend is appearing this season.

In the Who What Wear autumn/winter 2021 fashion trend report, editor-in-chief Hannah Almassi said that major design houses “are once again turning to their logos and monograms from decades past. Some are dreaming them up for the first time but still clearly referencing back to the classicism and success of the most recognisable symbols in the fashion world”.

So however you decide to do it—maximalist or minimalist—just make it a logo. Keep scrolling to see the look on this season’s runways and then shop our edit of the best logo pieces right now.
