There’s no doubt that gender-orientated perfumes should be a thing of the past. Scents shouldn’t be assigned “male” or “female” as arguably all fragrances are unisex—it’s completely subjective, as our olfactory nerves will tell us what we like and don’t like regardless of how we identify. However, there are some incredible scents out there that are considered more “unisex” than others. While I’m quite the fan of perhaps what would be considered “feminine” fragrances—Diptyque’s Eau de Rose is one of my favourites—I have a soft spot for the “unisex” fragrance. It all started, of course, with CK One way back in the ‘90s. But more recently, it was Glossier’s You perfume that launched in 2017 that really turned my head. It is warm and creamy and it moulds itself to your own personal scent, which is why it’s described as a ‘skin enhancer’ not a perfume and has the effect of getting you to move closer to the person who’s wearing it, just so you can get an even better whiff.
