I’m a Coat Obsessive—These Are the Ones I Want for Spring

I’m a Coat Obsessive—These Are the Ones I Want for Spring

It’s safe to say that I’m a bit of a collector when it comes to fashion. Although the idea of a perfect capsule wardrobe is what I long for, in reality, I’ll probably always own multiple shoes in the same style and too many pairs of jeans. Then, there are coats. Shopping for a new style is something I look forward to each year, and now I have quite the collection I can pick and choose from.

With springtime not just on the horizon, but, some days, well and truly here, I’m also thinking about raffia accessories and linen dresses. However, considering I live in the UK, it’s always about layering. I’ll forever pack an umbrella, sunglasses and a light jacket into the same tote bag (who knows what else is in the depths of said bag)—no matter the season.

It’s also guaranteed that if I’m in the proximity of my mother, she’ll demand I take a cover-up with me wherever I go. But these are just some of the reasons coats aren’t only for winter. Fortunately, there are plenty of coats that loan themselves very well to carrying through to the (slightly) warmer months. Scroll below to shop the best spring coats, neatly categorised by 2022 trends

Style Notes: Checks always make for a wise coat investment, but often, the colour palette can feel wintry and dark. For spring, embrace colourful checks that’ll add oomph to all of your outfits.

The bright checked coat of all bright checked coats.

If ultra-bright hues aren’t your thing, this navy and orange number is still statement enough to tick off this trend.

Shackets are here to stay.

Checkerboard absolutely falls into this category.

This is giving me big Kate Middleton energy.

Style Notes: While black outerwear will always be classic, for spring, add a navy coat into your rotation. Softer in tone but just as wearable, it’ll look the stylish part worn with a basic white tee and vintage-wash denim.

The gold buttons really make this coat look sharp.

I have nothing but good things to say about & Other Stories outerwear.

A frugal option that also comes in grey.

I like the entire styling of this Mango look.

This navy trench is the epitome of elegant.

Style Notes: The quilted-coat trend is sticking around for the season ahead, which is excellent news, as the typically waterproof fabric will serve you well during those spring showers.

This tan colour way will lift all of your spring outfits.

Black puffers never fail to look sleek.

I’m petite and prefer my quilting on the cropped side—in my eyes, this is perfect.

With the addition of a hood, this is the first thing you’ll grab when there’s a spring shower.

No one does puffed-up outerwear quite like Arket.

Style Notes: Often, it’s the smallest details that can make the biggest difference to your look. Cue shoestring belts. Robe coats always feel chunky, so search for styles with simple, skinny belts that look more streamlined for spring.

This coat looks so expensive.

This is a coat you’ll wear for years and years.

This coat is reversible, meaning you have two options in one.

This yellow coat will make your wares feel more springlike.

Timelessness is a MaxMara camel coat.

Style Notes: Shearling continues to be one of the biggest trends right now, but there’s no denying that it can feel very wintry when it covers the entire coat. Instead, look for options where shearling acts as a trim.

If you have the budget, I recommend this style.

This chocolate brown shade feels authentically ‘90s.

The grid-like panel presents a modern take on the shearling jacket.

For the coldest spring days.

How gorgeous is the Gucci branding?

Style Notes: More standout and crisp than tartan or Prince of Wales prints, supersize houndstooth motifs are cropping up in both the high-street and high-end shopping circuits.

Try belting this with a leather waist-cinched to create an entirely new silhouette.

Robe coats never go out of style.

Now this is a blown-up houndstooth print—how gorgeous!

This will wear so well with a plain tee, jeans, and loafers.

Love this coat? It also comes in plain black.
