Lizzo’s Cape Embroidery at the Met Gala Took 1,200 Hours to Create

Lizzo is back on the red carpet at the 2022 Met Gala and looking as glamorous as ever. Showing up in a black-and-gold embroidered cape and a black gown by Thom Browne, Lizzo embodied the “Gilded Glamour” theme and seemed to throw in a “Bridgerton” reference as well. Her dramatic cape actually took 1,200 hours to create, designer Browne told Vogue. Lizzo finished her look with black-and-gold corkscrew nails and voluminous curls.

For 2019’s “Camp: Notes on Fashion,” the “About Damn Time” singer echoed the exhibition’s banner image (a pink Bertrand Guyon caped coat with a flamingo motif and a surrealist flamingo, Stephen Jones-designed headpiece for Schiaparelli fall 2018 haute couture) – showing up as a literal iteration of a fashion flamingo. Walking the pink carpet, in tow with Marc Jacobs, Lizzo wore a pink gown with a feathered pink coat and coordinating pink hair. She embodied the essence of camp, paying homage to the 1964 campy film “What a Way to Go!”

Lizzo has continued to conquer every space, cementing herself as a true cultural icon. This year alone, she starred in a hit Amazon Prime original reality competition show, appeared as a guest judge on season 14 of “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” debuted two new songs on “Saturday Night Live,” launched a new inclusive shapewear line, and proceeded to break the internet every day with her social media posts.

Ahead, see how everyone’s favorite Taurus channeled “Gilded Glamour.”
