- The Duchess of Sussex did the volunteer call as part of her work with her patronage SmartWorks.
Meghan Markle has done more than one secret Zoom call to help others while quarantining during the coronavirus pandemic. SmartWorks revealed today that the Duchess of Sussex spoke with one of their clients to help coach her ahead of her interview for a psychology internship. The organization shared a clip from their discussion, where Meghan praised the young woman for her interest in mental health and gave her a sweet pep talk. The Duchess was dressed causally in a red blouse and two necklaces.
“I think you’re going to be fantastic. It’s just so exciting,” Meghan said.
“I just wanted to be able to call in and tell you best of luck and my fingers are crossed for you,” the Duchess continued. “There’s so much going on in the world right now and just to be such a beacon of hope and focusing on getting through it and all the positivity that we just want to send your way to make sure you can get on the other side of this too and have such a great opportunity there.”
SmartWorks is one of Meghan’s patronages in the UK. The organization helps unemployed women get the clothing, coaching, and confidence to succeed in job interviews. It is now operating a virtual clinic where its workers speak with unemployed women with confirmed job interviews to help coach them ahead of it.
Meghan praised their work, saying, “It’s been such an honor to meet and learn from so many talented women in the Smart Works network over the years, and recently to see the amazing work they’re doing to adapt their programs to the reality of this pandemic. Their ability to continue to empower women and help them harness the confidence they need to succeed during this time is inspiring.”
