We all want to look like our most-polished selves, don’t we? And although, sadly, I’m not here to provide you with a week at a spa and an endless allowance at The Row, I am here to bring you the most expensive-looking pieces on the high street every week. It’s my mission to prove that you can find premium pieces to elevate your wardrobe without the designer price tag and to make it easy for you to pinpoint the items on the high street that are really worth adding to your wardrobe.
There are some amazing gems out there that your friends won’t believe aren’t designer, but there’s a lot to sift through to find them. That’s where I come in—as a Who What Wear editor, scrolling new-in collections is my hobby, and I can spot an expensive-looking (and -feeling) piece a mile away. I’ll be adding the best bits I find to this list. Some may be more “affordable” than others, but you can be confident every piece is here because I believe it offers great value.
Hopefully this edit helps save you time and money building a closet of classic pieces that bring joy and last more than a few seasons. Now to the good part. Keep scrolling to shop.
I’ve recently fallen in love with a very similar designer style, but for £40 I’m sold on this alternative.
The high street’s most-wanted, most premium-looking bag has just been released in this new tan colourway.
How H&M manages to get their wide-leg trousers so perfect, we’ll never know.
The popular black and white version of this jumper has been sold out for a while now. So thank you, Arket, for bring this updated version into our lives.
The whole Who What Wear team has these in their ASOS basket right now.
A dreamy trench which deconstructs to become a gilet. That’s two chic, office-appropriate coats in one, then.
Leather trousers are a timeless investment if you find the right style; and these COS ones might just be perfect.
Blazers are such an easy option for throwing on in the morning over a thin knit to make your whole outfit look expensive. I love the sleek (and flattering) waist tie detail on this one.
This is one of those throw-on dresses you can always turn to when you’re running late in the mornings. Pair it with knee high boots and a roll neck now, then chunky sandals and a basket come summer.
Does it get more timeless than a navy wool coat?
This piece may be simple, but something about the ruching and slashed neck makes it feel super expensive.
Arket always does the best-quality shoes. These new-in loafers have gone straight to the top of my wish list.
A twist on a classic black blazer, made from recycled wool.
