Take a cue from the cosmos and reboot your entire life for this week’s new moon

With the frivolity of Leo season now at your back, brass-tacks Virgo dominates the week ahead (big time)—especially as the Northern Hemisphere autumnal equinox gets closer and closer. Meaning: As the moon wanes back to new (as it will Monday through early Friday morning), now’s the time to release clutter, as well as situations or circumstances that have run their course, including toxic relationships.

To put it in Marie Kondo’s terminology: If it doesn’t “spark joy,” consider letting it go. With the season of harvest coming full throttle, actively create space for the crops you are cultivating as well as the abundance you desire to conjure in the future. Forgive old grievances. Move on.

This new moon holds tremendous weight. Get your intentions ready because you don’t want to miss the opportunity to conjure your cosmic fresh start.

I lovingly refer to Virgo as the protector of purity because of all the signs in the zodiac, Virgo remains the most astute at catching the flaw and taking a stand for things in their most refined, true-to-form essence. Ruled by Mercury, this sign stays devoted to being of service. While the sun travels through this part of the zodiac, now’s the time to focus your attention toward what you most wish to devote your life.

The new moon, happening on Friday at 6:37 a.m. Eastern at 6 degrees of Virgo, invites a fresh start. This new moon boasts six planets in Virgo, and a beautiful trine to Uranus, which currently travels retrograde in Taurus. With the majority of the traditional planets in earth signs, this new moon holds tremendous weight. Seeds planted now or projects begun on, or immediately after, this new moon take firm root into the earth. Yes. Get your intentions ready because you don’t want to miss the opportunity to conjure your cosmic fresh start.

New moon intentions are best when set within the first 12 hours after a new moon. Writing them by hand in the first person, and in present tense, helps too. I believe reading them aloud at least three times helps to seal the intention in. So, carve out time on Friday to activate your desires in this way.

The week ahead calls for originality, innovation, purification, and a stern focus on your truth. With Venus, Mars, and the sun all trining Uranus, the cosmos asks you to allow fresh energy into your life. This means surrendering what’s stale, stuck or expired.

However, there’s a caveat. As I mentioned above, there’s an extreme amount of planetary emphasis in the earth signs. And with this heavy concentration in life’s practicalities, there no emphasis at all in air signs, which can make it hard to surrender. So your job is to conjure the winds of change by tuning into your breath and utilizing its powers. To do so, take long walks outside, practice opposite nostril breathing (or other forms of pranayama). When applicable, keep your windows open. Utilize essential oils like eucalyptus and peppermint to encourage deep breathing. Burning sage or palo santo helps clear old energy too.

Now’s your time to turn your wound into your wisdom. Commit to what you want. This week offers potent seeds of new beginnings. Choose wisely.

If things feel stuck, acknowledge this. However, if you find yourself feeling frustrated because of this, choose cathartic activities as opposed to low-vibe complaining. Chiron in Aries forms an inconjunct (an angle that usually indicates a need to realign before forging ahead) to the new moon. And since Venus, Mars, sun, moon, and Mercury all travel in the early degrees of the sign of the maiden this week, one by one they will each make an inconjunct to the wounded healer (aka Chiron). So now’s your time to turn your wound into your wisdom. Focus on the positive. It’s there. Commit to what you want. This week offers potent seeds of new beginnings. Choose wisely.

Aside from consciously releasing that which you don’t need and conjuring that which you do, this strong Virgo influence offers powerful mojo for detoxifying your body, too. This means focusing your wellness plans around amplifying your liver’s ability to do its job. You can do so by increasing your body’s glutathione levels (glutathione is a master antioxidant). Eating cruciferous vegetables, avocado, asparagus, and turmeric, for example, work wonders. Drinking plenty of water, getting adequate rest, and breaking a sweat also helps too—as does reducing, or eliminating, alcohol.

With so much earthy energy in the cosmos, let go of behaviors that hold you back and keep you small. So in addition to looking at relationships, physical clutter, eating habits, and exercise, you’ll also want to respect your finances. Remember your financial health, has a long-term impact on your physical health. There’s a reason why Virgo season falls at the same time as the harvest—your practical skills and hard work are needed to haul in the bounty before it rots. This metaphor absolutely applies to how you manage your money as well. Virgo invites attention to detail and a return to routine. If a budget is called for, stick to it.

Have a wonderful week and enjoy your post-new moon holiday weekend. Take time over the weekend to get outside and breathe. Fresh air does you wonders now!
