7 Ways to Style Up a Duvet Coat Now That We’re Living Outside

October 28, 2020 at 04:00AM

The humble puffer coat has come a long way since its original outdoor sports iterations. Thanks to Drake, Balenciaga‘s A/W 16 collection, and our constant pursuit of comfort, we’re very much in the era of the fashionable puffer coat. And 2020 is going to see this item of clothing gain even more popularity since the majority of our social lives will be taking place outside during the winter. As these jackets tend to cover us completely (especially if you have one of those head-to-toe versions), they can leave you feeling like it’s pointless to wear anything exciting underneath. But that’s actually not the case. I had a look at how some of my favourite Instagrammers have been wearing theirs and found some genuinely fun and exciting outfits that will make you love wearing your duvet coat on repeat.

There’s Alexis Foreman’s yellow quilted version, which she’s paired with an all-black outfit. Then, there’s Nnenna Echem‘s Saks Potts cropped jacket that looks great over a boldly coloured dress—pair with black track-sole boots for the full winter look. I’m also quite taken with Emili Sindlev’s padded Prada coat, which is a very autumn/winter 2020 take on the puffer jacket with the belt around the middle. If this sounds like something you’re after right now, keep scrolling to see seven of the best puffer jacket looks and how to wear yours now that we’re living outside.

Style Notes: If you’re looking for a fun version of a puffer coat, opt for a brightly coloured style such as Alexis Foreman’s yellow one. Wear all black underneath for a really contrasting look.

Style Notes: A more unconventional look is the new puffer from Prada. Re-create the look, if you already have your favourite jacket, by belting it in the middle.

Style Notes: The easiest of outfits, by far, is wearing a pair of blue jeans and track-sole boots underneath an oversize version.

Style Notes: Match with the autumn leaves by trying out a brown belted coat. Simply wear with a white T-shirt and a pair of black trousers.

Style Notes: Love matching? Match your coat colour with your boots and try a contrasting printed dress to break up the look.

Style Notes: Sometimes, only a head-to-toe puffer will do. In that case, wear all black and keep it simple.

Style Notes: Puffers don’t have to be knee-length or long. Cropped is much cooler and looks great with a brightly coloured dress.
