There’s nothing quite like seeing a celebrity wearing a cool new brand that you’ve never seen before. But it’s even better when you discover that it’s affordable. JW Pei’s bags have been spotted on the likes of Emily Ratajkowski and Gigi Hadid, and influencers are also getting in on the act. For one, Who What Wear favourite Lydia of @femmeblk has also worn one of the brand’s coveted bags.

And now, as if you needed any further proof that these bags are much-loved by the fashion crowd, during fashion month, we’ve spotted it on the arms of plenty of street stylers. From London to New York as well as Berlin, JW Pei’s Gabbi bag has been a hit.

So what makes these totes so special? They’re minimalistic in design and never showy. However, small details like a ruched handle or a new take on the baguette make them stand out. Perhaps their real selling point is the range of on-trend colours, with one of 2021’s biggest colours, green, featuring prominently in the latest collection. Or maybe it’s that they’re actually affordable, with the priciest of the bags coming in at £129.

JW Pei was created in 2016 by Stephanie Li and her husband, Yang Pei. The brand uses high-quality canvas, polyurethane, and certified fabric made from recycled plastic bottles, according to its website. If you’re looking for a new affordable label or something a little different, we’ve probably just found your new favourite handbag brand.

Style Notes: The Gabbi bag makes a wonderful addition to this already-colourful outfit and really makes the green pop.

Style Notes: Green and orange as a pairing seem to be very popular this season. The Gabbi bag in that Kermit hue looks incredible against the orange shirt.

Style Notes: Don’t discount how great purple and orange look together.

Style Notes: A great way to match your outfit to your bag without looking too matchy-matchy is to bring out a tiny bit of colour in your outfit with your bag, exactly like this green here.

Style Notes: You can always plump for a monochrome look too.

Style Notes: Not just for street style looks, this bag would work well for a more work-friendly vibe. Pair with a blazer for a smarter outfit.

Style Notes: Then again, these bags are so fun you’ll want to wear them everywhere and with anything, including with a great floral dress.

Style Notes: Emily Ratajkowski wears the Gabbi bag in yellow with a little black dress.

Style Notes: Lydia pairs the black Maze bag with cropped trousers and striped shirt.
