Psst, Thin Hair Types: This Trick Gets You Big Hair Fast

October 21, 2021 at 08:00AM

Unfortunately, I wasn’t blessed with thick, voluminous hair. It’s not quite a hardship, but what can I say? We all want what we can’t have. My hair is stick straight, which really isn’t anything to complain about. In fact, it might be a blessing because I’m pretty lazy when it comes to styling. Since my hair is pretty low maintenance and easy to manage, I can get away with air-drying it and letting it do its thing most days.

But like I said, we want what we can’t have, right? So when I’m looking at my flat strands, I dream of big, bouncy hair. And when I see people with the perfect beachy waves or hair with a ton of body, I feel a tinge of envy. I especially feel it during those moments when I put in the time and effort to curl my hair only to see it lie as flat as a pancake in just a few hours.

I’ve learned to deal with the hair I have, though. And one super-quick trick I have up my sleeve is a volumising hair powder. This stuff really does the work for me by adding some body to my roots. All I have to do is sprinkle on the product, tussle and fluff up my roots a bit and shake off any excess powder. While it doesn’t give me the exact big hair of my dreams, it does give me some extra lift and oomph that I otherwise wouldn’t have. And I just love that it’s a quick fix when I’m going out.

Take a look at some highly-rated volumising hair powders below, and try them for yourself if you’re wanting thicker strands.

Oribe’s powder is like a dry shampoo and volumiser in one. it absorbs oil, buildup and odour while lifting the strands. Plus, it has aloe vera to moisturise the scalp and hydrolysed quinoa to prevent breakage.

SexyHair’s powder absorbs quickly for an instant lift. The odourless and colourless formula is so lightweight that it will feel like you’re not wearing any product.

Briogeo’s ultra-fine root powder adds texture and lift to your hair thanks to maltodextrin, which coats each strand but doesn’t leave any residue. The formula also contains biotin to strengthen and ginseng and ginger root to stimulate blood flow to the scalp.

The tapioca starch in this product absorbs excess oil, which helps increase volume. It also has pro-vitamin B5 to hydrate and smooth and glycerin to lock in moisture and promote softness.

This powder will give instant volume and body to your roots and hair. One reviewer wrote, “I was about to give up on ever having voluminous hair until I found this product. I have really thin hair and it looked like I was balding at the crown of my head before I started using this. For extra volume, I would suggest teasing your hair after you spray the powder, but honestly, the powder on its own does wonders.”

Spray this product on your hair before blow-drying, and be prepared for big Texan hair. It’s also great at smoothing your strands and adding shine.

Bumble and Bumble’s texture spray is a great option if you’re looking for something that acts like a hair spray but won’t weigh your hair down. It’s an airy formula that creates lift and hold.
