Boot weather is almost upon us, and while the closet staple might seem like your humble, everyday item, any footwear enthusiast will know, each season there’s always a plethora of new and unique styles to choose from.

Whether you’re in the market for a pair of flats, commute shoes or sleek heels, autumn 2020 has presented us with a slew of boots for every occasion. With the A/W 2020 runways as a guiding light, we’ve seen quite a few key trends emerge for this season, including over-the-knee boots which were spotted at Bottega Veneta and Victoria Beckham, as well as fashion wellies which were seen at Prada and Chloé.

Aside from those, chunky track-sole boots are back for another season, and combat boots have also retained their popularity for 2020. Cowboy boots have once again crept onto the shelves, with our shopping editor Joy Montgomery having already purchased a vintage pair. From Proenza Schouler to Victoria Beckham, this is 2020’s answer to knee-high boots, lengthened this season to reach higher heights. Over-the-knee boots can be paired perfectly against minidresses and skirts, but will also work well with mid-calf lengths, too.

Track-sole boots are back for another season. Epitomised by Prada’s exaggerated chunky-soled iteration, the shoe style has now taken the high-street by storm, with & Other Stories, H&M, Mango and more creating their own versions.

Western cowboy style boots are nothing new, though they seemed to be making a return for autumn 2020. Whether ankle or mid-calf length, this style is set to add some flair to any outfit.

From Prada to Chloé, this season, Wellington boots were reimagined on the runway with a new fashionable focus. Prada sent colourful iterations down the runway, while Chloé took the signature gumboot style and added heels.

It seems we see the return of combat boots each autumn, though their update for 2020 often includes a chunkier, almost platform-like track sole. If you prefer to stick to tradition, there are still plenty of lace-up options around without the added height.
