6 Flat Shoes That Are Almost as Comfortable as Slippers

April 26, 2020 at 02:50PM

This week at home, I am alternating between two pairs of shoes: my sparkly Ugg slippers and my Marks and Spencer ballet pumps that I’d argue are just as comfortable as the former. I’ve found myself wearing my ballet flats in working hours in an effort to “still get dressed” in the mornings without compromising on comfort.

When it comes to spring flats, there are six styles in particular that are comfortable but still have the same chuck-on appeal of an old pair of slippers. Admittedly, several of the pairs on this list will require a period for breaking in, but once you have softened the leather on your flip-flops and loafers and your feet have adjusted to the shift to sandals from boots, they’ll be shoes you can walk 10,000 steps in.

On this list, you’ll find shoes that will span several different price brackets. My £35 M&S shoes are without a doubt the comfiest things I’ve ever put on my feet (I have three pairs), and I’ve also included some favourites at the higher end, such as Proenza Shouler’s collaboration with Birkenstock and Gucci’s iconic loafers.

Keep scrolling for the six styles of flats that I think are just as comfy as slippers.

Ballet pumps are perhaps the comfiest flats you can find, and ones with an almond toe and high-cut silhouette look particularly elevated.

Loafers can be tricky to wear in, but once you soften the leather, they’ll be comfortable flats you’ll treasure for years.

Sturdy, chunky sandals, such as Birkenstocks and two-strap, thick-sole sandals, are some of my favourite throw-on shoes.

These will take a little time to wear in, as flip-flops can lead to blisters between the toes, but once you’ve cracked them, they’ll be a trusty pair of throw-on shoes.

Backless flats really give you a slipper feel and so are an at-home winner.

Sometimes you just can’t beat a pair of simple trainers. Converse, Vejas and simple white lace-up tennis shoes are my favourites.
