When we need a quick wardrobe refresh—something to reignite our fashion fire and make getting dressed exciting again—we know just where to turn: Zara. Always one of the first brands to pinpoint the season’s top looks, Zara is known for starting trends, not merely following them. Right now, there are eight items which Zara is specifically getting right, all of which loan themselves very well to the 2021 aesthetic we’re in the process aligning our outfits to.

We’ve still got a few cold months to go, and Zara has just made seeing out the next few months feel like a fun sartorial challenge rather than a slow crawl to the warmer temperatures of spring. As with many other affordable brands, the ’90s are still reigning supreme right now across just about every product category. Instead of trudging up long-buried, cringe-worthy outfit flashbacks from our youth, Zara’s taken the best of the decade and turned it into a very chic 2021 capsule. The colour palette remains mostly muted, and the silhouettes are simple. Still, these pieces are anything but boring. So keep scrolling to see the best Zara buys, and shop them before they inevitably sell out.

The shacket trend shows no signs of waning, with Zara investing heavily in plaid overshirts for spring. They never stick around long, though, so you’ll have to move quick to secure the one you want.

We don’t mean to rag on slippers, but there’s something about wearing them, particularly on a workday, that makes us feel sluggish. Instead, we’ll be investing in a pair of Zara’s cool shearling house shoes, which are significantly chicer to wear when indoors.

While it might not be considered a niche trend, printed dresses were largely off Zara’s radar last season, with the brand favouring pared-back knitted styles over them. Now though, Zara bestowing us with so much printed midi goodness. Could one of these styles be the next polka dot dress?

The knitted shrugs we wore at every given opportunity in the ’90s are back, and thanks to Zara, they look chicer than ever. We’ll be wearing them with vests and tees or, better yet, co-ordinating bandeau tops, until temperatures start to heat up.

If you’ve already consulted our spring/summer 2021 trend report, then you’ll know that mini hemlines are making a comeback this year and, naturally, Zara is already leading the thigh-skimming pack.

There are certain details which make affordable handbags look as if they’re designer, and chain straps are one of them. Look for quilted or mock croc finishes to add extra polish.

While pink is set to be the colour of the summer ease yourself into a brighter palette by investing in some of Zara’s excellent lilac wares.

You don’t need to be a devout fashion follower to know that collars are a big deal right now (you need only browse your favourite new-in section for confirmation). Cue Zara, which has some of the cutest of them all.
