We here at Who What Wear like to talk in great detail (and with much passion!) about our jeans. They are one of the hardest-working items in our wardrobes, after all. We’ve already touched upon the biggest jean trends we’ll all be wearing in 2021—including ’90s baggy styles, cross-over waistbands and, of course, with wider-leg styles coming back in general, it only makes sense that flares have returned.

Yes, friends, the ’70s silhouette is back, and we’ve already spotted them on a host of street style leaders (back in September last year, when Fashion Week was still happening) as well as on celebrities such as Katie Holmes. Thanks to designers such as Balmain, Victoria Beckham and Ulla Johnson, leg-lengthening flares are set to be a staple part of our wardrobes this year. And we’ve noticed that fashionable French women, in particular, have been quick to jump on the trend.

The pinnacle of effortlessly chic, below we’re sharing some of the cool ways French girls are wearing the anti–skinny-jean trend right now. Invest in one of the chic pairs below and you’ll be wholly on-trend for the year.

The coolest way to wear the ’70s bootcut silhouette in winter is with a vintage-style faux-fur jacket. Ground the look with neutral brown boots and finish with a pair of retro sunglasses.

Dominique’s perfect example of a going-out top with flared jeans is the outfit we’ll be recreating as soon as we can go out again.

It doesn’t get more Parisian than a white shirt unbuttoned just-so, along with a pair of perfectly retro flares.

Show off your boots with a loose wide-leg silhouette (that has a slightly shorter hem) and pair with a simple cable-knit jumper for a totally effortless look.

Not all French women go down the minimalism route, you know. This vintage mash-up proves just how individual you can make a simple jeans-and-tee outfit, and chain belts are set to be big for 2021 so there’s your first step.

The trend doesn’t begin and end with flared jeans only—how about a flared denim jumpsuit? We like how Lena has made a utility piece look so smart with shiny boots and a blazer.

It classic and it works: A blazer, slim-fitting top, flared jeans, heels and basket bag is the kind of formula that you’ll never tire of.

Slim flares and a belted blazer (with nothing underneath!) could well be our new favourite sassy combination for 2021. Throw in a tarte tatin and things are looking pretty French up in here.

A pair of flares, a tailored coat and a decent pair of boots is all it takes to look totally polished.

Up next, the biggest spring/summer 2021 fashion trends you need to know.
