For the average person, hitting their major macronutrient requirements is a daily goal. For Olympic gymnast Simone Biles, it’s a non-negotiable. You certainly don’t land a triple double on the floor or a double-double on the beam without having the energy necessary to power those moves. (And okay, intense dedication and talent.) Besides coordination, gymnastics takes incredible arm, core, and quad strength.

When Well+Good hung out with the four-time Olympic gold medalist and Candid brand ambassador, we couldn’t resist asking her…what the heck do you eat? Here, Biles shares what an average day of eating looks like for her in the midst of training and competitions. Is her eating as balanced as her beam routine? Keep reading to find out.

Breakfast

You know what Biles has on an average day of eating before she starts her hours-long practices? Nope, not oatmeal. Not a nutrition bar. It’s waffles. “What I eat depends on the day and how I’m feeling, but sometimes I like to get up and have a protein waffle in the morning for breakfast with some fruit,” she says. Um, way more satisfying than anything that fits in your purse.

Lunch

When lunchtime hits, Biles prioritizes getting more protein—and fiber. “For lunch, it’s usually chicken and some vegetables,” she says. Easy, simple, done.

“If I get hungry between meals, my go-to healthy snack is plantain chips,” Bile says. Considering that plantains are a fiber-rich food, this snack is definitely a healthy win.

Dinner

For dinner, Biles keeps her plate simple and nutrient-dense, just like her lunch. “I like to eat fish with vegetables and rice,” she says. That will help her get a boost of protein and fiber along with omega-3 fatty acids and antioxidants.

In general, her eating style is straight-forward and healthy. When it comes to complicated and fancy, she saves that for her floor routine.
