Earlier this year, Well+Good surveyed readers about how they feel about the sleep and rest they’re getting. Many findings emerged, but the big and enduring takeaway is that we’re tired. In fact, 92 percent of us are fatigued at least once a week, and though many report having tried different strategies and solutions to improve their chronic sleepiness (CBD, meditation, natural sleep aids, you name it) it’s clear that some more guidance would be useful. And according to astrologer Kyle Thomas, taking your zodiac sign into consideration might just help you optimize your night routine in a way other strategies can’t.
“When it comes to relaxation and evening mindfulness, each zodiac sign has a special way to harness their strengths and bring more focus and energy to prepare for the upcoming day,” he says. Below, check out Thomas’s recommendations for the best night routine for you, based on your zodiac sign.
Below, get astrological insight about the best night routine for your sign.
Aries: Take a social media detox
“Aries are prone to craving adrenaline and not knowing how to shut off their minds,” says Thomas of this passionate first fire sign. “The best way to calm down and get great sleep is to unplug from social media at least an hour prior to bed.”
Taurus: Eat early
Ruled by Venus and lovers of fine food and luxurious situations, Taureans tend to like decadent dinners. But since eating too close to bedtime can negatively impact sleep, Thomas says the best tip night routine tip for this earth sign is to be mindful of snacking timing for optimal sleep hygiene. “Make sure to avoid heavy food and caffeine, as they keep you alert and potentially more prone to nightmares and night anxiety,” he says.
Gemini: Clean up to rid the chaos in your home
Quick-witted Geminis can skew scatterbrained given that they’re often chasing several pursuits at once. “Think of them like hurricanes: In order to clear the chaos, they should straighten up everything in their home so that when they wake up in the morning, they’re calm and collected, knowing where everything is,” says Thomas.
Cancer: Meal prep
“As the most domestic of the zodiac signs, Cancers can calm down before bed by meal-prepping for the upcoming day,” says Thomas. “Making sure you have snacks, a well-balanced lunch ready, and perhaps even some dinner for the family might bring more harmony to your busy schedule.”
Leo: Invest in your favorite hobby
Leos are the kings and queens of the zodiac, and they love to invest both in themselves and others—and also have fun. “Consider ending your day by allocating some time for you to do whatever it is you love,” says Thomas. “Whether that’s art, a hobby, or exercise, you’ll be allowing yourself to unplug from the stress of your day through joy.”
Virgo: Plan your schedule
Perfectionist Virgo needs to be organized at all times, so what better way to prepare for the day ahead than by making sure their schedule is absolutely perfect? “Take some notes in your planner or phone to plot out your day,” says Thomas. “This can include work, but also make time for exercise, family, or maybe even a romantic date.”
Libra: Lay out your outfit for the next day
Since Libra is ruled by Venus, this sign has a penchant for beauty and pleasure—but they aren’t exactly the most organized of all the zodiac signs. “Libras can be prone to indulgence and disorganization, so to bring some peace to their lives, they should set aside the clothes and objects they might need for the upcoming day,” says Thomas. “They add in a face mask while they’re getting ready for some much-needed TLC.”
Scorpio: Meditate
Scorpios are often misunderstood, and can truly fester in their emotions. “This is okay if the emotions are good, but obviously, toxicity, negativity, and frustration do not bring happiness,” says Thomas. “One way to actually improve mental health, though, is by attempting to eliminate negativity from your life. Meditate on what you can actually control, and release what is not serving you.” And don’t think it has to be all that elaborate, either: Just five minutes can absolutely do the trick.
Sagittarius: Start a gratitude journal
Sagittarians love to travel and are constantly on the hunt for their next adventure. Unfortunately, due to their thrill-seeking ways, they often forget to be present in the here and now and be grateful for what they have. “A great way to bring more peace and abundance into a Sag’s life is by being aware of the little blessings and giving thanks for them,” says Thomas. They can do this by either verbally giving thanks before bed or by starting a gratitude journal. And honestly, starting small is absolutely fine: Just a couple of tweaks a day mean huge improvements for your mind-set.
Capricorn: Stretch it out
Capricorns are the workaholics of the zodiac, and they often forget to take their mental and physical health into account. “Rest and relaxation are crucial when you’re building an empire (or a family), so spending some time doing breath-work, stretching, and yoga will improve a Capricorn’s mental and physical health,” says Thomas.
Aquarius: Read a book or watch a funny TV show
“An imaginative and highly intellectual zodiac sign, Aquarians are great at losing themselves in worlds beyond our own,” says Thomas. “To unplug from the stress or drama of day-to-day life, spend some time releasing your imagination by watching a series or reading a book.”
Pisces: Reflect on the day that just went by
“As the most spiritual zodiac sign, Pisces have a great connection with humanity,” says Thomas. “A beautiful way to bring resolution to your day is through reflection and prayer. Spending 15 or 30 minutes connecting to your inner self to bring light important messages.” Sensitive Pisces are sure to find this task easier than many other signs.
