When you spend as much time looking at clothes as I do, you start to pick up on various, highly specific things. Whether it’s spotting an abstract print and instantly knowing which brand it belongs to or seeing the buckle of a shoe and being able to correctly identify its designer, there’s a certain encyclopaedic knowledge that comes with being a fashion editor.
Recognising trends is simply a part of the job, and as everything takes place online these days, I often find myself making subconscious mental notes of the trends and popular items I see on Instagram. From Bottega Veneta’s fringe bag collection to JW Anderson’s instantly recognisable chunky chain accessories, the fashion set seems to be gravitating towards several statement-making buys this season.
While I wouldn’t attribute the coveted “cult buy” status to just any product, I have spotted nine items already this autumn that I believe deserve that exclusive title following their appearance on the feeds of more than a few influencers. From Baum und Pferdgarten’s check coat to Prada’s nylon minidress and House of Sunny’s fur-trimmed cardigan, keep scrolling for the cult buys that are already everywhere this season.
