Pisces is the 12th and final sign of the zodiac wheel—and, as a Pisces rising sign myself, I like to think that the astrological gods saved the best for last. Those born between February 19 and March 20 are known to be highly empathetic, creative, and compassionate, with an optimistic approach to romance that can sometimes veer into fantasy territory. But what if you’re a Pisces who doesn’t totally relate to your sun sign’s description? Well, there are many planets in a person’s natal chart, each one lending a different aspect to their personality. In this case, one of the most important is a Pisces’ moon sign, which is the sign the moon was in the moment they were born.
A person’s moon sign represents the lens through which they experience and express their innermost feelings. Given that Pisces is such a deep-diving sign—its symbol is a fish, after all—it’s not uncommon for these people to be more in touch with their moon sign energy than most. “As a water sign, Pisces have a strong relationship with the moon,” says astrologer and women’s empowerment coach Natalia Benson, author of Mystical AF. “The moon, in general, rules emotions, and Pisces is a sign that can get on board with the emotionality that the moon represents.”

Pisces with Aries moon
What do you get when you mix Pisces’ imagination and Aries’ independence? A creative revolutionary, in many cases. “This may be a person who’s really able to put fire behind their ideas,” says Benson. “Pisces tend to be very dreamy, but when you get that Aries moon, it can toughen them up a little bit and give them more gumption with their creativity.” Rihanna is a Pisces with an Aries moon—enough said.
Pisces with Taurus moon
Earthy Taurus is one of the most harmonious moon signs for head-in-the-clouds Pisces, according to Benson. “A Taurus moon is very grounding for the emotions and can give form and function to Pisces’ dreams,” she says. Plus, both Pisces and Taurus are signs that love making things beautiful, which means this could be a person who expresses their feelings through fashion, interior design, or another creative pursuit.
Pisces with Gemini moon
According to Benson, there are two types of Pisces: Those who are highly emotive and open, and those who are so sensitive that they keep their deepest feelings to themselves. A Pisces with a Gemini moon would likely be on the more expressive end of the spectrum. “Any time we get a Gemini placement, but especially with the moon, there’s a propensity toward wanting to communicate emotions,” she says.
Pisces with Cancer moon
Don’t try to hide anything from a Pisces with a Cancer moon, warns Benson. This double-water-sign combination is so intuitive, they border on psychic. “They can pick up the emotions and ideas of other people, so they really have to make time for clearing their energy field: being in nature, taking baths, eating nourishing foods, staying really grounded,” the astrologer says.
Pisces with Leo moon
“Leo energy has passion behind it—maybe even a flare for the dramatic,” says Benson. Pair those vibes with an artistic Pisces sun, and you might have a person with Oscar- or Pulitzer-winning potential. “They could share what they’re feeling through their words or performance. If it’s on their mind or heart, they’re going to find a way to express it in a poetic way,” she adds.
Pisces with Virgo moon
An analytical, worker-bee Virgo moon and a sensitive Pisces sun aren’t the most natural blend, according Benson. “This person may want to compartmentalize their emotions, but how do you put the ocean into a Tupperware container?” she says. “A big key for this person is to let those deep feelings flow. That may serve whatever it is they’re creating in the world even better.”
Pisces with Libra moon
Both Pisces and Libra are big on intimate relationships—so big, in fact, that this person may not have particularly strong boundaries on the romantic front. “They can let anyone in and give them a lot, so it’s important to be aware of what they value in relationships,” says Benson. To ensure healthy and empowering partnerships, the astrologer recommends getting clear on what kinds of behaviors are a “yes” and a “no” before falling for someone.
Pisces with Scorpio moon
Don’t let this combination’s watery, spiritual streak fool you—they’re masters at protecting themselves and those whom they love. “Sometimes, what they say about Pisces is that they have no form of defense, as they’re the fish of the zodiac,” Benson says. “But scorpion energy will sting you. A Scorpio moon can help a Pisces sun to feel empowered and set good boundaries.”
Pisces with Sagittarius moon
A Sagittarius moon typically gives a person an adventurous streak—in other words, this probably won’t be a Pisces who spends much time sitting in their room writing poetry. “Pisces with a Sag moon may have a deep passion around learning and traveling,” says Benson. “They really take in the world through their senses and share it back to us.” Expect to see lots of ocean getaways on this water sign’s Instagram grid.
Pisces with Capricorn moon
“Anytime we have a Capricorn moon, that’s someone who may express their emotionality through their work,” says Benson. “Pisces, on the other hand, is very otherworldly.” Put these two energies together, and you’re likely to get someone who is able to build an empire around their creative ideas—they just need to make sure they aren’t bypassing their feelings by clocking long hours at the office.
Pisces with Aquarius moon
This may be a Pisces who feels deeply about humanitarian causes: “If someone with this combination feels restless or a little lost, they should get involved with a cause or organization that they can truly stand behind,” says Benson. And, bonus points if they take on a role that allows them to contribute their unconventional ideas and creative talents.
Pisces with Pisces moon
Anyone with both the sun and moon in Pisces can expect to be exceptionally in tune with the typical Pisces energy. “This can be a very deep, soulful human,” says Benson. And, the trick to navigating all of this watery energy? “They have to own their value and take care of their heart in a world that doesn’t always prize sensitive, empathic people,” Benson says. But when they do, she adds, this mix is nothing short of magic.
Here’s what it means if you were born on the cusp of Aquarius and Pisces. Also, did you hear Mercury just went retrograde in the sign of the fish?
