I’m a makeup artist, and here’s how I spent $143 to fill my personal kit

Whenever there’s a new launch or a big sale, it can be tempting to drop your hard-earned coins on products that seem to-die-for amazing but probably won’t work their way into your everyday routine. I’m a sucker for creamy glitter eyeshadows, and I can count on one hand how often I used one in the past year.  Chauntal Lewis, a makeup artist at West Hollywood salon Nine Zero One, says the essentials you use every day is where you should you’re putting your money.

“When we spend over $60 to $100 on one product, we tend to not want to spend much more on other necessities,” says Lewis. “I generally spend the most on skin care and foundation, and have found great, affordable mascaras, brows products, bronzers, concealers, highlighters, and lip product without breaking the bank.”

Below, Lewis shares the six products she relies on for her everyday look. You can get them all for less than $150.

How a makeup artist spends $143 on just the essentials

Lewis’ favorite buildable foundation for medium to full coverage comes from Fenty Beauty. “I love the instant-smooth, and shine-free finish,” says Lewis. “It gives a natural dewy look once settled in.”

2. Lancôme Monsieur Big Mascara, $25Lancôme Monsieur Big Mascara, makeup artist essentials

“This is, in my opinion, the best mascara for both length and especially volume, always leaving your lashes bold and voluptuous,” says Lewis. “I always get asked if my lashes are real with Monsieur Big.”

3. IT Cosmetics Brow Power Micro Eyebrow Pencil, $24IT Cosmetics Brow Power Micro Eyebrow Pencil

“IT Brow Power is the most universal brow pencil for every shape or boldness one is looking for,” says Lewis. “It’s my favorite for an everyday brow, yet buildable for full glam.”

4. Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer, $30; MINI, $13Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer, makeup artist essentials

“It’s the best for brightening under the eyes without creasing,” says Lewis. She wears the concealer in the shade custard every single day.

5. Nars Blush/Bronzer Duo Mini, $24

“NARS duo is just a must have,” says Lewis. “Just the right amount of blush and bronzer, especially for an everyday quick and easy, liven-up-the-face trick.” If the bronzer isn’t dark enough to use as a bronzer on your skin, it can come in handy as an eye shadow.

6. Becca Liquid Crystal Glow Gloss, $22
