The One “Naked” Trend I’m Actually Buying Into This Year

There’s no doubt that the year 2021 has been sent to try us. And while there are absolutely bigger things to concern ourselves with, I need to alert you to the fact that there’s yet another “naked” trend on the horizon for this coming season. While usually I’d find that pretty terrifying (personally, I like my clothes to actually clothe me), this is one look I’ve found myself drawn to. The cutout trend is easily the only way you’ll find me doing any sort of “naked” trend in 2021 (or ever, in fact). The beauty about this look is that it can be as subtle or as sassy as you like; a real spectrum on how to do it.

The runway collections for spring/summer 2021 demonstrate this with delicate slashes in dresses over at Christoper Esber or teardrop holes in tops at Chloé. Both Alexander McQueen and Chanel have their own versions of this look via halternecks or simple layering to achieve a peek-a-boo effect. On the (w)hole though, it’s about the suggestion of skin and showing just a little bit. Plenty of influencers have already got the hang of this trend, so I’m looking to some key looks to inspire me. And if designer prices are putting you off but you love this style, then know that the high street has some incredibly elegant tops and dresses to choose from as well. Keep scrolling for everything you need to know with the 2021 cutout trend.

Style Notes: Knitted dresses were made for cutouts. Pair with chunky boots for a cool effect.

Style Notes: A sassy mini dress made interesting with the addition of a shoulder slash. Amy proves that you can always wear jewellery with the neckline too.

Style Notes: You don’t have to limit yourself to wearing black dresses to do this trend. Try bold colours too.

Style Notes: The easiest way to dip your toe in is with a small cutout on a top. So chic.

Style Notes: If you want to go the full way, do as Tiffany Hsu does and opt for the full cutout dress.
