The concept of fashion and sustainability is an ever-evolving conversation. While we know this industry is one of the world’s major polluters, accounting for around 10% of humanity’s greenhouse gas emissions, there are also several companies who are doing their bit to create products in a more eco-conscious way.

Particularly when it comes to swimwear, there are many brands on the market who are committed to using recycled materials, with several labels coming full circle in creating swimwear from recycled from ocean plastic, fishing nets and other industrial waste. This is all made possible through the use of Econyl, a regenerated nylon fabric which is made from 100% recycled materials.

From influencer favourites including Peony Swim and Fisch to high-street labels such as Arket, Econyl is currently being used by varied brands across the industry to create swimwear for a myriad of styles and price points. Though you’ll have to check the fine print if you’re looking for an Econyl swimsuit, as while some brands create their entire collections in the fabric, others only use the material for specific styles.  To quote a statistic that has been bandied around a lot over the last few years, by 2050, it is estimated that there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish. Though thankfully, there are innovative creations such as Econyl which are doing their part to help defy this prediction. With this in mind, we’ve put together an edit of our favourite swimsuits made from Econyl and other recycled materials, highlighting those brands who are consciously putting sustainability at the forefront.
