Actress Anna Kendrick has dabbled with veganism, meditation, yoga and pilates. Relatable.
The 30-something star, who is undeniably adorable in film roles from Oscar-nominated Up in the Air with George Clooney to all three of the Pitch Perfect films, is quizzed constantly about her health and beauty habits and, naturally, her responses are usually beyond funny. As for her stint with veganism, it apparently ended after a fixation with mac n’ cheese fully set in. (If only she’d had our vegan recipe!)
Speaking to Shape magazine earlier this summer, Anna shared, “The times in my life when I tried to restrict the foods I love always backfired, and I ended up feeling miserable. For me, it’s all about really being present in my body, not depriving it.”
While Kendrick may still be finding her way with best-fit wellness habits, she has one thing down pat: a commitment to the best anti-inflammatory wellness shots around. According to the same interview with Shape, Kendrick got passionate about her obsession with ginger and we can relate big time. “I am powered by ginger. I keep wellness shots of ginger, lemon, and cayenne from Pressed Juicery in my fridge.” She goes on to say, “If I’m traveling and I can’t have ginger, I’ll feel sick. There was a time when I was in Germany for three months and I couldn’t find a crushed-juice place. So I bought a juicer and a bunch of ginger to make it myself because I was positive it was the only thing keeping me alive.”
Anna Kendrick’s feelings about shots of ginger juice are, surprisingly, not so unique. The spicy, head-clearing phenomenon of a good ginger shot can only be understand once you’ve experienced it for yourself. A week of daily ginger or turmeric shots leaves us feeling revitalized and energized unlike any other health habit we have, but for, maybe, morning lemon water or green juice. Here’s why:
Ginger has been traditionally used in alternative medicine for eons. The spice is closely related to turmeric with many of the same anti-inflammatory and antioxidant-packing benefits. Most notably, ginger has been shown in studies to fight menstrual-related and post-exercise muscle pain, lower blood sugar, and help with indigestion. In other words, it just makes us feel good.
According to Pressed Juicery, “ginger contains anti-inflammatory properties that help with circulation, aid in digestion by soothing the stomach, and support glowing skin”.
If you’ve never given a daily dose of ginger or turmeric a try, we highly recommend it. To try at home, we’re obsessed with Pressed Juicery’s Wellness Shot Bundle or go all-in on their bundle of best-selling shots (elderberry, turmeric and ginger). Check out this photographic evidence of just how real the obsession over wellness shots can be.
You can also enjoy ginger as a tea (read about how we’re reducing our wine intake this way!), grated fresh over just about anything, or in a million delicious recipes you can explore here, but taking the spicy shots are the most potent way to reap the benefits of ginger full-on!
Catch Anna Kendrick on the new comedy series Love Life on HBO Max or on new streaming service, Quibi, in Dummy.
